Toothpaste is an essential aspect of dental hygiene. It is an abrasive that is effective in scrubbing off the plaque bacteria that develops on our teeth during the course of the day/night.

The addition of flouride in toothpaste has been the most effective ingredient in the reduction of tooth decay.

We might think toothpaste is a modern invention but the ancient Egyptians used a tooth powder almost 7000 years ago, however its ingredients of ox hooves, pumice and eggshells is probably different to modern recipes.... All you had to do was add a little moisture and the paste was ready to use.

The truly first modern toothpaste in a tube was produced by Colgate in 1896, but it wasn`t until World War I that toothpaste became more popular than tooth powder.
