A toilet is an item in the bathroom that is used to remove human urine and excrement into a drainage system.

In the past, many humans used what was effectively a hole in the ground, either just freshly dug and then refilled after use, or a hole leading into a cesspit. A gathering implement that would contain the human waste. Cesspits usually have some product added to help neutralize the bacteria inside.

With modern plumbing, the whole way in which we remove body waste changed entirely. By using water to flush the waste down the toilet into the drain, a much more hygienic lifestyle has been possible for billions of people.

The first toilet bowls, did not contain flushes, but usually buckets of water were poured down the toilet.

With the invention of the Cistern, automatic refilling and flushing of a toilet became possible.
