Before toothbrushes were invented, humans have used a wide variety of implements to clean teeth. Evidence of bird feathers, animal bones and tree twigs being used to remove plague bacteria has been found all over the world.

Chew sticks seem to be have the favoured method of cleaning for many hundreds of years. The first bristled toothbrush was used sometime between 600 and 900 AD in China and the idea eventually spread to Europe in around the 17th Century.

The first mass produced toothbrush was produced in the UK 1780. The company that created these toothbrushes eventually became the Wisdom Toothbrushes company.
