Strictly speaking there are several seperate Mitsubishi companies each dealing in different fields. The company Mitsubishi Motors specifically focused on the manufacture of vehicles has a long history dating back to before the 2nd world war, however the mass production of a car began around 1960. Since then the Mitsubishi Motor company has had many years of successful operations and is one of the top car manufacturers in the world.
The first car that Mitsubishi built that had world market success was the Galant. It was sold in the U.S. as a Dodge Colt and the Chrylser Sigma in Australia.
