Bangles are a type of jewellery worn on the arm in the wrist area. They can be made from many types of material. Ancient examples found are made of copper, gold, bronze, silver, glass and bone. Bangles have been worn as decoration for over 5000 years in civilizations around the world. A true bangle will have no clasp and is solid in construction.

There is some confusion about bangles with people believing they originate in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as the word bangle is from Hindi baṅglī and means glass bracelet, but it is only the word bangle that originates for Hindi. Bangles however they were known before have been worn by many cultures around the world long before the word existed in its present form.
