Mangoes originated from Asia somewhere around India and Bangladesh. Mango trees grow to around 35 metres in height and can be harvested for many decades. Some mango trees are over 300 years old.

The worlds largest producer of Mango is India who produce around 25 million tonnes each year. This is roughly half the worlds global production, however, most Indian mangoes are eaten in India so are not really exported to any large extent. Other major producers are Indonesia, China, Brazil, Mexico, Pakistan and the Philippines.

The mango is often eaten direct, but is also turned into other products such as juices and chutneys.
